Categories

Manage and customize transaction categories.

Overview

Categories are used to classify transactions, power budgets, and generate reports. TrendingBudget comes with a set of default categories, and you can customize them to match your needs.

Managing Categories

  • Add — Create new categories with a custom name and color.
  • Edit — Rename categories or change their color.
  • Delete — Remove categories (transactions will become uncategorized).
  • Reorder — Drag to reorder categories in the list.

Auto-Categorization

Plaid transactions come with suggested categories from the bank. Transaction Rules (Settings → Transaction Rules) let you automatically assign categories based on merchant name patterns.

Usage

  • Budgets are linked to one or more categories.
  • Reports break down spending by category.
  • The dashboard shows top spending categories.
  • Income entries can also be categorized.
